How It Began
The Orville Redenbacher's brand started in 1969. It quickly became a favorite for popcorn lovers. The company that launched it, Chester Inc., was owned by two people: Charles F. Bowman and Orville Redenbacher.
Changes in Ownership
Over the years, the brand was sold to different companies. In 1976, it was sold to Hunt-Wesson. This company was part of Norton Simon Inc.
Later, in 1983, a company called Esmark bought Norton Simon. The very next year, in 1984, Beatrice Foods bought Esmark.
In 1985, a company named Kohlberg Kravis Roberts bought Beatrice Foods. Their plan was to sell off some of the businesses. Finally, in 1990, the popcorn business was sold to a very large food company called Conagra Brands. Conagra Brands still owns Orville Redenbacher's today.
Who Was Orville Redenbacher?
