Otto Greiner facts for kids
Otto Greiner (born December 16, 1869 – died September 24, 1916) was a German painter and graphic artist. A graphic artist is someone who creates art using drawing, printmaking, or computer graphics.
He was born in Leipzig, Germany. He started his art career there as a lithographer and engraver. A lithographer creates images on stone or metal plates for printing. An engraver carves designs into surfaces, often for printing.
Around 1888, Greiner moved to Munich and studied art with Alexander Liezen-Mayer.
Otto Greiner's Art Style
Greiner's unique art style was greatly shaped by the artist Max Klinger. Greiner met Klinger in 1891 while visiting Rome.
Greiner's art often showed surprising ways of arranging space. His paintings looked very realistic, almost like photographs. This style is called "photographic naturalism."
Later Life and Legacy
Otto Greiner passed away in Munich in 1916.
Today, the largest collection of his artwork in the United States can be found in the Jack Daulton Collection. This collection is located in Los Altos Hills, California.
