Characters in the Story
Ottoline Brown
Ottoline Brown is the main character of the Ottoline book series. She lives in a unique place called Pepperpot Building, in Apartment 243. Her best friend, a creature named Mr Munroe, lives with her. Ottoline's parents often travel to faraway countries. They leave Mr Munroe in charge of looking after her.
Ottoline loves to write in her notebook. She also enjoys splashing around in puddles. She is very keen on solving mysteries. Ottoline has many interesting collections, like her "Odd Shoe Collection" and her "Postcard Collection." She even has a special diploma in disguising herself! This diploma came from a school called Who R U. Ottoline is a clever little detective.
Mr Munroe
Mr Munroe is Ottoline's loyal friend. He comes from a bog in Norway. He is a small, furry creature with long, straight hair. Ottoline enjoys brushing his hair. It seems Mr Munroe also has a diploma from the Who R U school, just like Ottoline!
In the story, Mr Munroe uses his disguising skills. He pretends to be a fancy dog named Bimby Bottlenose II. This dog is also known as "Nosey." Mr Munroe draws a map of their apartment. This helps Ottoline try to catch the Yellow Cat. Ottoline's parents found Mr Munroe in Norway. They brought him home and gave him a coat and sunglasses. Mr Munroe has lived with Ottoline since she was a baby. They have been best friends ever since.
The Yellow Cat
The Yellow Cat is the main villain in the story. She runs a sneaky company with her partner, Clive, who is a talking parrot. The company's dogs are trained to run away from their owners. They then return to the Yellow Cat. These dogs carry secret maps. The maps show where money and jewels are hidden.
The Yellow Cat is friends with other tricky characters. These include Butch Hilburg, Rupe the Fang, Snarler McMurtagh, and The Sundance Pup. For a short time, she was even friends with "Bimby" (who was really Mr Munroe in disguise). The Pet Police finally caught the Yellow Cat at the end of the book. She was trying to steal from Ottoline's parents. The Yellow Cat is very selfish and greedy. We don't know much else about her.
The Bear
The Bear is a unique character Ottoline discovers. He was stealing clothes from other people. He lives in the basement of the building. He says the basement is much cozier than his cave. The Bear is taking a holiday instead of hibernating.
Ottoline keeps the Bear's secret safe. In return, he doesn't tell anyone about Ottoline listening in on other people. The Bear even dresses up as Lady Ursula Jansen-Smith. He tries to buy "Bimby" (Mr Munroe) from the Yellow Cat. At the end of the book, he helps catch the Yellow Cat. He hugs her to stop her from escaping. A letter from Ottoline's parents hints that the Bear now lives with Ottoline and Mr Munroe. This Bear is not like a typical bear. He is actually very kind and helpful.
Ottoline's Parents
Ottoline's parents are important, even though they are never seen in the book. Ottoline's mother sends her postcards from all their adventures. They call Ottoline "O." They also call each other Ma and Pa. Pa is mentioned in the postcards, but he doesn't write them himself.
Ma seems to know a lot about Ottoline's life. She knows Ottoline got her diploma. She also knows that the Bear is now living with them. Ottoline's parents send her many gifts from different companies. These gifts help take care of her. Ottoline plans to join her parents on their adventures when she is older. They have many interesting collections from all the countries they visit.
