Ozuluama de Mascareñas is a special area called a municipality in the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is located in a part of the state known as Huasteca Alta. You can find it on the western side of the Tamiahua Lagoon. The main town, or "municipal seat," is called Ozuluama.
In 2005, a count showed that Ozuluama de Mascareñas had about 23,190 people living there. Around 3,439 of these people lived in the main town of Ozuluama. The municipality covers a large area of about 2,357 square kilometers.

What's in the Name?
The name "Ozuluama" comes from the Nahuatl language. This was the language spoken by the Aztec people. The second part of the name, "de Mascareñas," was added on August 20, 1980. It honors a brave soldier named Colonel Francisco Esteban Mascareñas. He was born in this area. Colonel Mascareñas fought on the side of the Liberals in a conflict called the Reform War. This war happened in Mexico during the mid-1800s.
People and Languages
Many people live in Ozuluama de Mascareñas. In 2005, about 284 people in the municipality spoke an indigenous language. This means they spoke a language that was here before Spanish arrived. The main indigenous language spoken was Nahuatl.
