P. Scott Neville Jr. (born around 1948 or 1949) is an American lawyer. He has held a very important job as a justice on the Illinois Supreme Court. This is the highest court in the state of Illinois.

Scott Neville's Education
Scott Neville went to Culver–Stockton College for his first degree. After that, he studied law at Washington University School of Law. There, he earned his law degree, which is called a Juris Doctor.
His Legal Career
Neville became a lawyer in 1974. He started his career by working for a judge named Glenn T. Johnson. From 1977 to 1979, he worked as a lawyer at a firm called Howard, Mann & Slaughter.
In 1979, he became a main partner at the law firm Neville & Ward. Later, in 1981, he started his own law firm, P. Scott Neville, Jr. & Associates. This firm later joined with another firm in 1990.
Working as a Judge in Illinois
In 1999, Neville was chosen to be a judge for the Circuit Court of Cook County. He was then officially elected to this position in 2000.
On June 11, 2004, he was appointed to the Appellate Court. This court reviews decisions made by lower courts. He was elected to the Appellate Court in 2012.
He also led a special committee for the Illinois Appellate Court. He was the Presiding Justice for different parts of the court at various times.
Joining the Illinois Supreme Court
The Illinois Supreme Court chose Neville to fill a spot when Justice Charles E. Freeman retired. He officially became a justice on June 15, 2018. His term was set to end in December 2020, but he was later elected to keep his position.
Justice Neville made history as only the second African-American justice on the Illinois Supreme Court. The court had been around for 170 years when he joined.
