P Is for Pterodactyl: The Worst Alphabet Book Ever is a fun children's picture book. It was written by Raj Haldar and Chris Carpenter. Maria Tina Beddia created the cool illustrations.
This book is special because it teaches you about English words with silent letters. These are letters you see but don't say, like the 'P' in "Pterodactyl"! The book also shows words with unusual spellings. Sourcebooks Jabberwocky published the book on November 13, 2018. It quickly became very popular. It even reached number 1 on The New York Times Best Seller list for children's picture books. More than 210,000 copies of the book have been sold!
How the Book Was Created
The idea for P Is for Pterodactyl started in 2016. Raj Haldar, who is also a rapper known as Lushlife, was celebrating with friends. A child brought some alphabet flash cards to the party. This gave Raj Haldar and his friend Chris Carpenter, who is a software engineer, an idea. They thought it would be fun to create an alphabet book about tricky words.
An artist named Maria Tina Beddia joined their team. She was recommended by another friend. Before the book was published, it was turned down by a few publishers. But eventually, Sourcebooks Jabberwocky decided to publish it. The book officially came out on November 13, 2018.
