About Pablo Trapero
Pablo Trapero was born in San Justo, Argentina, in 1971. He made his first full-length movie, Mundo Grúa, in 1999. This film won a special award called the Critics Prize at the Venice Film Festival. This was a great start to his career!
His Own Film Company
In 2002, Pablo started his own film company called Matanza Cine. This company helps produce his own movies and also films for other directors. This means he helps other filmmakers bring their stories to the screen.
His second movie, El Bonaerense (2002), was shown for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival. Later, Familia Rodante (2004) premiered at Venice, and Nacido y Criado (2006) was shown at Toronto. These are all very important film festivals.
Movies and Awards
In 2008, his film Leonera was shown in the main competition at Cannes. This movie featured Martina Gusman, who is an actress and also helps produce his films.
Pablo Trapero returned to Cannes with Carancho (2010) and Elefante Blanco (2012). Both of these films were part of a special section called Un Certain Regard. His movies have been shown at many major festivals. They have received great reviews and won many awards.
Being a Film Judge
Pablo has also been a judge at important film festivals. He has served on the main juries at Venice, San Sebastian, and Locarno. In 2014, he was even the President of the Un Certain Regard jury at Cannes. This shows how respected he is in the film world.
In 2015, the French Ministry of Culture gave him a special honor called Chevallier l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. He was the first director from South America to receive this award.
With his film, The Clan, he won the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice International Film Festival. This is a very big award for a director!
