Pakistan Military Academy facts for kids
The Pakistan Military Academy (also known as PMA or PMA Kakul) is a special school where young people learn to become officers in the Pakistan Army. It is located in a place called Kakul, near Abbottabad, in Pakistan. Think of it like famous military schools in other countries, such as Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, Saint-Cyr in France, or West Point in the United States. The PMA trains future leaders for the army.
History of PMA
The Pakistan Military Academy started in 1948, a year after Pakistan became an independent country. Before Pakistan was formed in 1947, the land where the academy now stands had a different purpose. It was used by the British Indian Army as a school for physical training and mountain climbing. This site was also once a camp for prisoners of war from the Boer War. Later, it became a base for the Royal Indian Army Service Corps, which was a group that helped supply the army.
