Finger joint straightening and bending, palmar plate in grey |
Imagine your fingers bending and straightening. Inside your hand, there are special, strong tissues called palmar plates (or volar plates). They are like tough, flat bands that connect the bones in your palm (called metacarpals) to your finger bones (called phalanges).
These important plates act like strong guards for your finger joints. They help your fingers move smoothly and correctly. They also stop your finger joints from bending too far backward or being pulled apart.
Where are Palmar Plates Found?
Each palmar plate is located at the front of your finger joints. They start at the base of your first finger bone, which is the one closest to your palm. Then, they stretch to the next joint, connecting to the middle finger bone.
This means these plates are found in the joints that let your fingers bend and straighten. They are a key part of what makes your fingers work so well!
