Pamela Ballantine started her career in broadcasting in 1983. She has worked in radio and television.
Early Radio Work
Pamela began her journey at Downtown Radio as a secretary. She soon started reading news and reporting for the station. She also presented her own show and filled in for others. Later, she worked for BBC Radio Ulster as a morning presenter.
Moving to Television
In 1983, Pamela joined Ulster Television, known as UTV. She started as a continuity announcer and news presenter. A continuity announcer introduces shows and tells viewers what is coming up next.
Presenting at UTV
When UTV Live launched in 1993, Pamela became a regular newsreader. From 1999 to 2009, she presented and reported for UTV Life. This was a nightly magazine show. She also presented game shows like Ulster Schools Quiz and Hot Pursuits in 1994.
Later Roles at UTV
In 2009, Pamela returned to the UTV continuity department. She also became a relief weather presenter. This means she would present the weather when others were not available. Her staff contract ended a year later. However, she continued to work for UTV as a freelance presenter. She still works as a continuity announcer and ambassador.
