Pamela Butchart is a Scottish writer who creates exciting books for children. She also teaches philosophy to high school students. She is famous for her funny and adventurous books like The Spy Who Loved School Dinners and My Teacher is a Vampire Rat. Both of these books have won special awards!

Pamela's Journey to Writing
Pamela Butchart studied philosophy at the University of Dundee. She also went to the University of Edinburgh to learn how to be a teacher. After finishing her studies, she started teaching philosophy at Harris Academy in Dundee.
Her journey into writing children's books began when her fiancé gave her a book about how to write for young readers. Pamela has said that the famous author Judith Kerr, who wrote The Tiger Who Came to Tea, is one of her inspirations.
Award-Winning Books
Pamela Butchart has won some amazing awards for her books:
- In 2015, she won the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Story. This was for her book The Spy Who Loved School Dinners. The pictures in this book were drawn by Thomas Flintham.
- In 2016, her book My Teacher is a Vampire Rat won the Red House Children's Book Award. It won in the Young Readers category and was also chosen as the overall winner!
Continuing the Secret Seven Series
In 2017, it was announced that Pamela Butchart would write new books for the classic Secret Seven series. These books were originally written by Enid Blyton and the last one came out in 1963. Pamela wrote the sixteenth and seventeenth books in the series:
- Mystery of the Skull was published in July 2018.
- Mystery of the Theatre Ghost was published in February 2019.
About Pamela's Life
Pamela Butchart lives in Broughty Ferry, which is near Dundee. She lives there with her husband, Andy Cunningham. They got married in July 2014.
