Parisa Damandan is an amazing Iranian photographer and art historian. She was born in 1967 in Isfahan, Iran. She is known for her special work with old photographs and helping to save important historical pictures.

Becoming a Photographer and Historian

Parisa Damandan studied photography at the University of Tehran. After her studies, she became very interested in the history of photography. She wrote a book called Portrait photographs from Isfahan: Faces in transition, 1920-1950. This book shows the history of Isfahan in the early 1900s through many old portrait photos.

Finding Hidden Photos

It took Parisa ten years to find all the pictures for her book! Many old photo collections in Isfahan had been destroyed. This made it very hard to find these important historical images. Her hard work helped bring these forgotten faces and stories back to life.

Saving Photos After the Bam Earthquake

In 2003, a big earthquake hit the city of Bam in Iran. Many buildings and historical items were damaged. After this disaster, Parisa Damandan started a special project. She wanted to find and protect the old photo collections in Bam that were still left.

By 2006, she had already saved over ten thousand old photo negatives! Her project was very important because it helped keep the history and memories of Bam alive through its pictures.
