Parsons, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Parsons is a small, quiet place in Sullivan County, Missouri. It's known as an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

What is an Unincorporated Community?

An unincorporated community like Parsons is a group of homes and sometimes businesses that are not officially part of any city or town. People living there still get services like roads and police, but these are usually provided by the county government. They don't have a mayor or city council just for Parsons.

History of Parsons

The area now called Parsons has had a few different names over the years. Long ago, it was sometimes called "Parson" or "Gath."

In 1881, a post office was opened there, and it was first named Gath. Later that same year, the name of the post office was changed to Parson. However, the post office eventually closed in 1901. Today, the community is known as Parsons, and its name comes from a nearby stream called Parson Creek.
