Pascal Caffet (born in 1962) is a famous French chef who makes amazing pastries and chocolates. He's so good that he's been named a World Champion and even earned a special title called "Meilleur Ouvrier de France," which means "Best Craftsman of France." Early Life and Training
Pascal Caffet was born in 1962 and grew up in Troyes, a city in France. His parents, Lydie and Bernard Caffet, opened their own chocolate shop called "Le Palais de Chocolate" in 1979. Growing up around delicious treats, Pascal learned a lot about making sweets. He also trained with other famous chefs like Maison Peltier and Gaston Lenôtre, who taught him many important skills.
Becoming a Chocolatier
After his father passed away in 1987, Pascal and his wife, Florence, took over the family chocolate shop. They worked hard to make it even better.
In 1997, Pascal started a competition to help new, talented chocolate makers at the beginning of their careers. He wanted to encourage young chefs.
Over the years, his company grew a lot!
- In 2004, they opened another shop in Troyes and several shops in Japan.
- In 2008, they opened their first shop in Paris, the capital of France.
- In 2010, they opened a shop in Turin, Italy.
- In 2013, more shops opened in Nevers and Reims, two other French cities.
Pascal Caffet is especially famous for his chocolate pralines, which are a type of chocolate candy with a soft, nutty filling. In 2017, he even wrote a book about them called Praline.
In October 2018, a workshop where he made his chocolates in Pont-Sainte-Marie had a fire.
Amazing Awards
Pascal Caffet has won many important awards for his incredible skills:
- 1989: He was named the Best French Pastry Confectioner, earning the special title "Meilleur Ouvrier de France." This is a very high honor for a craftsman in France.
- 1996: He won a Gold Medal at the Pastry & Chocolate World-Championship in Milan, Italy. This made him a "Champion du Monde" (World Champion)!
- 2003: He won another Gold Medal at the Pastry & Chocolate World-Championship, this time in Lyon, France. He became a World Champion again!
- 2008: He was recognized by the Club des Croqueurs de Chocolat, a famous chocolate tasters' club.
- 2009: He was named the Best Chocolate Maker in France.
- 2014: His company was recognized as a "Living Heritage Company," which means it has special traditional skills and knowledge.
