Pat Ingoldsby (born August 25, 1942 – died March 1, 2025) was a well-known Irish poet and TV presenter. He hosted fun children's TV shows and wrote plays for the stage and radio. He also published books of short stories and wrote for newspapers. Later in his life, he became famous for his poetry books. He often sold these books himself on the streets of Dublin.

Pat Ingoldsby's Early Life
Pat Ingoldsby was born in Malahide, Dublin, on August 25, 1942. As a child, he faced health challenges due to polio. These challenges affected him throughout his life. The famous playwright Maeve Ingoldsby was his second cousin.
Pat Ingoldsby's Career
In the 1980s, Pat Ingoldsby hosted popular children's TV shows on RTÉ. These shows included Pat's Hat, Pat's Chat, and Pat's Pals. He also wrote many plays for the theatre. Some of his plays were Hisself (1978), Rhymin' Simon (1978), and When Am I Getting' Me Clothes (1978).
Writing for Newspapers and Books
In the early 1990s, Pat wrote a column for an Irish newspaper called the Evening Press. These columns were later put together in a book titled The Peculiar Sensation of Being Irish. Pat could speak Irish very well. He often included a few poems written in Irish in his poetry books.
Focusing on Poetry
Around the mid-1990s, Pat decided to step away from TV, radio, and theatre. He chose to focus mainly on writing poetry. He still remained a part of Ireland's art scene. He sometimes helped open art exhibitions or introduced new musicians. He also helped launch other people's books.
Pat published his own books through a company he started in 1994 called Willow Publications. He even had a special note in some of his books. This note said his books were protected from being used in school textbooks or exams. He retired from selling his books on the streets of Dublin in 2015.
In March 2022, the Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI) showed a video about Pat's work. This was to celebrate his latest collection of poems. The book was called In Dublin They Really Tell You Things — Pat Ingoldsby, Selected Poems 1986–2021.

Pat Ingoldsby passed away on March 1, 2025. He was 82 years old. He died at a nursing home in Clontarf, Dublin.
