Types of Patches
Cloth Patches
Cloth patches are pieces of fabric, often shaped like rectangles. People use them to cover holes in clothes, cushions, teddy bears, and blankets. You can attach these patches by sewing them on with a needle and thread, or by gluing them on with a hot iron.
Decorative Cloth Patches
Many uniforms use cloth patches that have words or pictures sewn onto them. For example:
- Police officers wear patches that show the name of their police force.
- Military uniforms have patches with their country's flag and the name of their military unit.
- Business uniforms often have patches with the company's name and logo.
People also wear patches on their everyday clothes. Tourist shops sell patches with the names of different places. Teenagers sometimes wear patches with the names and logos of their favorite rock bands. Motorcycle club members might wear patches on their leather vests to show their club's name and logo.
Leather Patches
Leather patches are pieces of leather, usually rectangular. They are used to fix holes in heavy-duty work clothes. You often see them on the elbows of jackets or the knees of pants. Like cloth patches, leather patches are sewn on with a needle and thread.
Rubber Patches
Rubber patches are flat, thin pieces of rubber. They can be square, round, or rectangular. These patches are glued onto bicycle or car tire inner tubes to fix holes. They are also used to repair inflatable toys.
