Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Patches & Pockets was a fun Saturday morning television show. It aired for more than 18 years in Toledo, Ohio, on TV channel 11, WTOL.

What Was Patches & Pockets About?

The main characters were a brother and sister pair of rag dolls. Bev Schwind played Patches, and Sue Donner played Pockets. Both actors lived in Port Clinton, Ohio.

The rag dolls lived in a toy box with their big, stuffed red dog. They spent their days entertaining children on the TV set. They also had many small adventures in the studio's "Neighborhood." Sometimes, they would visit real places in the Toledo area. These included the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and the Toledo Zoo.

Learning from Patches & Pockets

One of the rag dolls would often get into a little bit of trouble. Then, they would work together to solve the problem. It was a show that taught good lessons about right and wrong. Patches, the female rag doll, often faced a tricky situation. Pockets, the male rag doll, might cause some mischief.

Pockets had a funny way of telling time. He would look at his ruler! When Pockets needed to think really hard, he would put his shoe on his head.

Show Music and Legacy

The music played at the start and end of the show came from "The Citizen Kane Overture." This famous piece of music was created by Bernard Hermann.

Marlene "Sue" Donner, who played Pockets, passed away on June 26, 2011. She was 78 years old.
