The Story of Patrón
The first Patrón drinks were made by a company called Casa 7 Leguas. This was one of Mexico's oldest distilleries.
In 1989, a company called St. Maarten Spirits bought the rights to the Patrón brand. Its owners were John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley. In 2002, the production moved to a brand new distillery.
Patrón's Growth and Marketing
In 2000, Ed Brown, a former race car driver, became the CEO. Patrón started to present its products as "premium" or high-quality. They used special individually-numbered glass bottles to show this.
This marketing idea helped Patrón become very popular. Many famous people, including country music and hip hop singers, mentioned the brand. This made Patrón a big part of popular culture.
Ownership Changes
In January 2018, Patrón was sold to Bacardi. Bacardi is the world's largest privately owned spirits company. The sale was for a large amount of money, $5.1 billion.
The Patrón brand logo uses a special font called Algerian.
