Early Life and Art Journey
Patrick John Walshe was born in Ennis, a town in the west of Ireland. He went to school at Glenstal Abbey, a Benedictine Abbey, from 1964 to 1970. After that, he studied business at Trinity College, Dublin from 1970 to 1974.
While at Trinity College, he was also very involved in art. He led the Art Society from 1971 to 1974. His first art show happened in Dublin in 1976. He shared this exhibition with another artist, Tim Booth.
Painting in America
In 1982, Walshe moved to New York City in the United States. He lived in Brooklyn and worked as a chef. During this time, he was part of the lively art scene in the East Village. He showed his paintings at the Beuhlahland Gallery in 1984.
Later, in 1986, Walshe moved to Los Angeles, California. He continued to work as a chef to support his painting career. He displayed his art in many galleries there. He also had exhibitions in Chicago in 1989 and 1990.
Return to Ireland
In 1992, Patrick Walshe left the United States. He spent two years traveling and painting in Asia and Africa. After his travels, he returned to Ireland with his family.
Today, he lives and paints in County Wicklow, Ireland. He regularly shows his artwork in both Britain and Ireland. His paintings are part of many collections around the world.
Unique Painting Style
Since 2004, Walshe has developed a special way of painting. He uses silver leaf on his canvases. This technique makes his paintings look like they have a three-dimensional quality. It makes the images seem to pop out.
He has shown these unique paintings in several important places. These include Russborough House in 2009 and 2010. He also exhibited at The Orangery in Holland Park, London, in 2010. One of his most notable exhibitions was at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin in April 2012. He also had an exhibition at Art Hub in Abu Dhabi in June 2010.
