Paxton & Whitfield facts for kids
Paxton & Whitfield is a very old and famous shop in England. They are known as a cheesemonger, which means they specialize in selling delicious cheeses! Their main shop is in London, on a street called Jermyn Street.
A Long History of Cheese
Paxton & Whitfield started a very long time ago. The company was officially founded in 1797. However, its roots go back even further to a market stall in Aldwych in 1742. That's over 280 years of selling cheese!
The shop first opened on Jermyn Street at number 19. Later, in 1894, they moved to their current spot at 93 Jermyn Street.
Supplying the Royal Family
Paxton & Whitfield has a special honor called a Royal Warrant. This means they are official suppliers to the British Royal Family. It's like getting a special stamp of approval from the King or Queen!
They have two Royal Warrants:
- One from the Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) in 1997.
- One from Queen Elizabeth II in 2001.
Their connection to the Royal Family is very old. It dates back to Queen Victoria in 1850. This shows how much the Royal Family trusts Paxton & Whitfield for their cheese.
