Early Life and Family
Pedro de Alcántara Alonso Pérez de Guzmán was born in 1724. He inherited the title of Duke of Medina Sidonia when he was still young. This made him one of the most important people in Spain.
In 1743, when he was about 19 years old, he married Mariana de Silva y Álvarez de Toledo. Her mother was the 11th Duchess of Alba de Tormes. This marriage connected him to another very powerful family.
Important Roles and Achievements
Pedro de Alcántara Alonso Pérez de Guzmán held several important positions. In 1753, at age 29, he became a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece. This is one of the oldest and most respected knightly orders in Europe.
He also served as the Caballerizo mayor to King Charles III. This meant he was in charge of the king's stables and all royal horses. It was a very trusted and high-ranking job at court.
In November 1749, he was chosen as a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a group of very smart scientists and thinkers in London. Being a Fellow showed that he was interested in science and learning.
Succession
Pedro de Alcántara Alonso Pérez de Guzmán did not have any children. Because of this, his important title of Duke of Medina Sidonia passed to his cousin after he died in 1779.
