Peggi Blu (who passed away in May 2024) was a talented American singer. She was famous for being the 'Star Search Grand Champion' for female singers in 1986. Later, in 2013, she won the 'Vocal Coach of the Year' award at the Malibu Music Awards. Many people also knew her as a vocal coach on the popular TV show American Idol.

Peggi Blu's Early Life
Peggi Blu was born in Lumberton, North Carolina. She started singing when she was just three years old! When she was 14, she moved to New York City with her uncle, Bishop Walter L. Benton. Her uncle's choir helped her begin her professional singing career. Because she was so busy with singing, she was homeschooled.
Peggi Blu's Music Career
Peggi Blu's singing career began in 1973. She started as a background singer for other artists. Her first recording was on Archie Shepp's album, "The Cry Of My People". Throughout the 1970s, she sang backup for many musicians. These included artists like Elkie Brooks and Esther Phillips.
In the mid-1970s, Peggi Blu also toured with a group called The Crystals. In 1980, she signed her first big record deal with MCA Records.
Albums and Hit Songs
In 1987, Peggi Blu released an album called Blu Blowin'. This album had two songs that became minor hits in R&B and hip hop music. These songs were "Tender Moments" and "All The Way With You".
In 2002, she released her third album, Livin' On Love. This album came out on Expansion Records.
TV Shows and Coaching
In 2006, Peggi Blu appeared on a TV show called "Miracle Workers" on ABC. She was on the show with her friend Charles Valentino. In 2007, she helped with the music for the movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. She sang backing vocals and helped arrange the singing parts.
From 2011 to 2012, Peggi Blu became a judge and vocal coach on American Idol. She helped many aspiring singers on the show.
