History
Pellville became an official community in 1870. Before that, it was known by a different name: Bucksnort. The community also had a post office. This post office was named Blackford, Kentucky. It first opened on May 29, 1851. The post office served the community for many years, finally closing on September 19, 2009. The community was renamed Pellville in 1868. This new name was chosen to honor Samuel B. Pell. He was an important person who had served as a state legislator.
