Penny Vincenzi (born Penelope Hannaford) was a famous British writer. She wrote many popular books, including 17 novels and two collections of short stories. By 2014, over 7 million copies of her books had been sold!

Her Early Life

Penny Vincenzi was born Penelope Hannaford on April 10, 1939. She grew up in Bournemouth, England. Her parents were Stanley and Mary Hannaford. Penny was an only child. She described her background as very ordinary. When she was a child, her family moved to Devon. She went to school at Notting Hill and Ealing High School.

Becoming a Writer

In 1962, Penny started working for the Daily Mirror newspaper. She began as a secretary. After just one year, she was helping the women's editor, Marjorie Proops. Marjorie knew Penny wanted to be a journalist. She let Penny help with research and small tasks.

Penny also worked as a fashion journalist. She wrote for different magazines and newspapers. These included the Daily Mirror and Vogue.

Her Family Life

Penny met her future husband, Paul Robert Vincenzi, when she was 19. Paul worked in advertising. They got married on May 27, 1960. Penny and Paul had four daughters together. Paul sadly passed away in 2009 from a brain tumour. Penny Vincenzi died on February 25, 2018. She was 78 years old.
