The People's Suffrage Federation (PSF) was an important group in Britain that worked to get voting rights for all adults. It started in 1909. The PSF was led by Margaret Llewelyn Davies, who was also a leader of the Co-operative Women's Guild.

How the PSF Started

The People's Suffrage Federation was formed when two other groups joined together. These groups were the Co-operative Women's Guild and the Women's Labour League. They decided to combine their efforts to make a stronger movement for voting rights.

Why the PSF Was Important

The PSF believed that the movement for women's voting rights was facing problems. They thought that differences between social classes were hurting the cause. For example, groups like the Women's Social and Political Union and the Women's Freedom League had disagreements because of these class divisions.

The PSF also thought that asking for "universal suffrage" would be more popular. Universal suffrage means the right to vote for everyone, not just some people. They believed that the government at the time, which was a liberal government, would be more likely to agree to this. They worried that if only women from wealthy families got the right to vote, it might make the conservative political party stronger. The PSF wanted voting rights for all adults, no matter their social class or wealth.
