Pepsin is a small, quiet place in Newton County, in the state of Missouri, USA. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and people, but it doesn't have its own city government or mayor. Instead, it's usually looked after by the county government.
A Look at Pepsin's Past
A long time ago, in 1892, a post office was opened in Pepsin. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for about 11 years, closing its doors in 1903. It's a bit of a mystery why this community was named "Pepsin." The word "pepsin" usually refers to something found in our bodies that helps digest food!
