Perry Winslow (1815–1890) was a famous whaling ship captain from Nantucket, Massachusetts. He was born on February 25, 1815, in Nantucket. His parents were Joseph Winslow and Betty (Comstock) Winslow. Perry came from a family of sailors. His brother, Joseph Winslow, was also a whaling captain. His first cousin was Charles F. Winslow, who lived from 1811 to 1877.

Perry Winslow was known for exploring the ocean. He discovered a place called Winslow Reef in the Phoenix Islands. This reef is a group of rocks or coral near the surface of the water.

Life as a Whaling Captain

Perry Winslow spent many years at sea. He commanded several whaling ships. One of his ships was named Phoenix. Whaling was a big industry back then. Whalers hunted whales for their oil, which was used for lamps and other products.
