Perth Leisure Pool facts for kids
Perth Leisure Pool is a popular indoor fun and recreation center in Perth, Scotland. It is a great place for families and friends to swim and play.
In 2006, over 700,000 people visited the pool each year! Around 2024, there were discussions about the future of the pool and other nearby sports centers. New plans for a modern sports center were being considered.
Building the Fun: How Perth Leisure Pool Was Made
Perth Leisure Pool was designed in 1984. Architects FaulknerBrowns won a special design competition for the project. This competition was organized by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and Perth Council.
Councillor John L. Wilson helped guide the building of the pool. The facility officially opened its doors on July 29, 1988. Anne, Princess Royal, a member of the Royal Family, attended the opening ceremony.
What You Can Do at Perth Leisure Pool
The pool complex offers many exciting features. It has five swimming pools with fun flumes and bubbly areas. There is also a gym for exercise. Kids can enjoy an outdoor play area too.
A special children's lagoon is available for younger swimmers. Its depth changes from about 1 foot to 2.5 feet (0.3 to 0.76 meters). This makes it a safe and enjoyable space for little ones.
Refreshments and vending machines are available at Perth Leisure Pool, and for anyone looking for a little more, Langs Café is situated right across the car park, upstairs at Dewars Centre. Langs café offers a selection of snacks, freshly baked cakes, and comforting hot drinks.
Keeping Swimmers Safe and Healthy
In August 2002, some people experienced a stomach illness after visiting the pool. To ensure everyone's safety, the facility was temporarily closed. Experts investigated what happened.
They recommended many improvements to the cleaning and water treatment systems. These changes were put in place. The pool then reopened, ready to welcome visitors safely again.
