Her Amazing Acting Career
Starting Out in Movies
Petchara's first big role was in a film called Banthuk Rak Pimchawee ('Love Diary of Pimchawee'). This was in 1961. She acted alongside a very popular leading man, Mitr Chaibancha. They became a super famous acting pair. Together, they starred in more than 150 movies!
Famous Films and Awards
One of their most loved films was Monrak luk thung. This movie came out in 1970. It was a musical that celebrated the beauty of Thai country life. In 1964, Petchara won a special award. She was named best actress by the Thailand National Film Awards committee. This was for her role in the movie Nok Noi. King Bhumibol himself gave her the award.
Continuing Her Journey
After Mitr Chaibancha sadly passed away in 1970, Petchara kept acting in films. She starred in a musical comedy in 1971 called Ai Tui ('Mr. Tui'). In this movie, she acted with Sombat Metanee. He became a very popular leading man after Mitr's death. Petchara's last film was Ai Khuntong. It was released in 1979.
Over the years, Petchara has appeared in public less often. This is because she has become nearly blind. Many people believe this happened because she spent so many hours working under bright lights on movie sets.
Her Lasting Influence
Petchara's unique style has inspired other films. For example, a character's look in a movie was based on Petchara. This film was partly directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. More recently, in 2005, the film Yam Yasothon ('Hello Yasothon') paid tribute to her. This movie was a musical-comedy. It was directed by the comedian-actor Petchtai Wongkamlao. The film was set in the 1960s. It really captured the fun and colorful spirit of the movies Petchara made with Mitr.
