Peter Bird's Early Career
Joining the AFL
Peter Bird was chosen by the Fitzroy team in the 1994 National Draft. He was the 58th player picked overall. Before joining Fitzroy, Peter played for the Geelong Falcons. The Falcons are a junior team that helps young players get ready for the AFL.
Playing for Fitzroy
Peter played his first games in the AFL during the 1995 AFL season. He played in twelve matches that year. In 1996, he played in three more games for Fitzroy.
Peter Bird's Later Career
Moving to Other Teams
After playing for Fitzroy, Peter Bird moved to Western Australia. From 1997 to 2002, he played for the Subiaco Lions. Later, he joined the South Bunbury team in the South West Football League.
A Unique Situation
In 2004, Peter was involved in an unusual event. He was allowed to play for Peel Thunder for just one game. This game was against East Perth.
However, Peel Thunder played him in their very first game of the season instead. This was against Claremont. Because Peter was not officially cleared to play in that specific game, there was a problem.
The other teams in the WAFL league voted on what should happen. They decided that Peel Thunder's score from that first game would not count. This meant Peel Thunder officially had a very low score for that game.
Retiring from Football
Peter Bird played for Peel Thunder for two seasons. He finished his football career at the end of the 2005 season.
