Peter Krieg, born Wilhelm Walter Gladitz on August 27, 1947, in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, was a talented filmmaker. He made, produced, and wrote many documentary films. He passed away on July 22, 2009, in Berlin.

Peter first studied business at Hamburg University. But he soon decided to travel instead! He taught people how to ride horses in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. Later, he returned to Germany with his first wife, Heidi Knott. They both studied film at the German Film & TV Academy in Berlin. They even worked together on some of his early movies.

Peter Krieg won important awards for his film September Wheat. These included the German Film Award and the Adolf Grimme Prize. Many of his films were shown all over the world. He also helped produce films by other directors, like A'Wahed Askar.

About Peter Krieg

Peter Krieg helped start two important festivals. One was the OEKOMEDIA Institute and Festival. This event focused on media about the environment. It took place in Freiburg from 1982 to 2005.

He also co-founded the interActiva Festival. This festival was about interactive media. It was held in Cologne and Babelsberg from 1991 to 1995.

For a time, Peter Krieg led the design team at the HTC digital film center. This center was part of the famous Babelsberg Film Studios. He also worked as an executive producer. He helped create films for big exhibitions and theme park attractions. These included films for Expo 2000 and the Space Center Bremen.

In the late 1980s, Krieg became interested in how people understand things. He explored ideas about how we build our own views of the world. He even edited a book called The Eye of the Viewer. This book honored a famous thinker named Heinz von Foerster.

After 1999, he supported a software company called Pile Systems Inc. This company was developing new ways to organize information. Peter Krieg had two children and lived in Berlin.
