Growing Up: Peter's Early Life
Peter Kuruvita was born in 1963 in Fulham, England. He lived there for his first four years. In 1967, his family moved to Colombo, Sri Lanka, which was his father's hometown.
While growing up in Sri Lanka, Peter learned about cooking from his grandmother. She made wonderful Sri Lankan cuisine. This strong family connection and love for food made him want to become a chef.
In 1974, Peter and his family moved to Sydney, Australia. He finished high school there. After school, he started training to be a chef at East Sydney TAFE. He finished his training at the Ryde Catering College.
Peter's Cooking Journey: His Career
Peter's first job was in a seafood restaurant in southern Sydney. He worked there until 1981. Then, he moved to finish his studies and gain more experience. He worked with a chef named Greg Doyle at Rogues restaurant for two years.
In 1982, after finishing his training, Peter got a job in London. He worked at Rue St Jacques, a very famous restaurant. Later, he worked at another top restaurant called Waterside Inn in Bray, England.
Since then, Peter has worked all over the world. He has cooked at fancy hotels and resorts. These include the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia, USA, and the Yasawa Island Lodge in Fiji. He also worked at some of Sydney's best restaurants, like Barrenjoey House and Bilson's.

Peter is a consultant chef for Flying Fish Restaurant. It is located in Pyrmont, New South Wales, right on Sydney Harbour. This restaurant opened in 2004. Flying Fish serves modern Australian dishes, with a special focus on delicious seafood.
Flying Fish, Fiji
In 2008, Peter opened Flying Fish Fiji. He partnered with Starwood Hotels for this restaurant. It is located right on the sand at the Sheraton Fiji Resort in Nadi, Fiji.
Steak House by Peter Kuruvita
This restaurant is located at the Westin Hotel in Nadi, Fiji. It offers a great steak experience.
Noosa Beach House
