Early Life and Cooking Start
Peter Kuruvita was born in England in 1963. His dad was from Sri Lanka, and his mom was from Austria. When he was four, his family moved to Colombo, Sri Lanka. This is where his dad grew up.
In Sri Lanka, Peter learned about cooking from his grandmother. She made delicious Sri Lankan food. This family experience made him want to become a chef.
In 1974, Peter's family moved to Sydney, Australia. He finished school there. After school, he started training to be a chef. He learned at East Sydney TAFE and Ryde Catering College.
Peter's Chef Journey
Peter's first job was at a seafood restaurant in Sydney. He worked there until 1981. Then, he moved to work with chef Greg Doyle at Rogues restaurant. He stayed there for two years.
In 1982, Peter finished his chef training. He then got a job in London, England. He worked at Rue St Jacques, a restaurant with a Michelin star. Later, he worked at the Waterside Inn, which had three Michelin stars.
