Peter Moore Smith (born in 1965) is an American writer. He is known for his novels and short stories. In 2000, he won the Pushcart Prize for his short story called "Oblivion, Nebraska." He has written two novels, Raveling and Los Angeles. Both were published by Little, Brown.
Two of his short stories have been made into films. His story Oblivion, Nebraska became a short film in 2006. His story Forgetting the Girl was chosen for the Best American Mystery Stories collection in 2000. This story was also made into a film.
Peter Moore Smith is the brother of famous actress Julianne Moore. He lives in New York City with his wife, Brigette, and their son, Wolfgang.

"Oblivion, Nebraska" is one of Peter Moore Smith's most famous short stories. It was first printed in a magazine called The Massachusetts Review in 1996. Later, it was chosen to be part of the Pushcart Prize XXVI book, which features the best works from small publishers.
Film and Stage Adaptations
This story has been adapted twice. First, it was made into a short film in 2006. This film was shown at the Australian International Film Festival. It was 11 minutes long and featured actors like Jeremy Davidson and Sterling Beaumon.
The story was also performed live as a stage reading by WordTheatre. The magazine Kliatt described the story as a "bittersweet tale." It is about a young boy trying to understand his world after his mother passes away. A recording of this performance was released by Harper Audio.
