Sir Peter Warburton was an important British judge who lived a long time ago, from about 1540 to 1621. He was also a Justice of the Peace, which meant he helped keep law and order in his local area.

Early Life and Education

Peter Warburton was born to Thomas and Anne Warburton. When he was young, he went to places called Staple Inn and Lincoln's Inn. These were like special colleges where people studied to become lawyers. He joined Lincoln's Inn in 1562.

In 1572, he finished his legal studies and was "called to the Bar." This meant he was officially allowed to work as a lawyer. Later, in 1582, he became a "Bencher," which was a senior position at Lincoln's Inn, showing he was a respected member of the legal community.

Political Career

Sir Peter Warburton was interested in public service. He served as a Justice of the Peace for the city of Chester. This role involved helping to maintain peace and order, and dealing with minor legal matters in the community.

He was also considered to become a Member of Parliament. A Member of Parliament (MP) is someone elected to represent people in the country's government. Even though he wasn't chosen for Chester at first, he was elected to represent Newcastle-under-Lyme. He later served as an MP for the City of Chester in the Parliaments of 1586, 1589, and 1597. This shows he was a trusted voice in government for many years.

A Distinguished Judge

Sir Peter Warburton's career in law continued to grow. In 1593, he became a "Serjeant-at-Law." This was a very high rank for a lawyer in England at that time, showing he was one of the best and most experienced.

Then, in 1600, he was made a "Justice of the Common Pleas." This meant he became a judge in one of England's most important courts. This court dealt with many different legal cases between ordinary people.

As a judge, Sir Peter Warburton was known for his wisdom. He worked hard and was seen as "an ancient, reverend and learned judge." He continued to serve in this important role until he passed away in 1621.
