Meet Peter and Sloane

Jean-Pierre Savelli's Start

Jean-Pierre Savelli, or Peter, was a singer before the duo formed. He sang the opening songs for French versions of popular Japanese TV shows. These included X-Or (also known as Space Cop Gabin) and Albator, le Corsaire de l'Espace. Albator is the French version of the classic anime Captain Harlock.

Chantal Richard's Journey

Chantal Richard, or Merry Sloane, was first a backup singer for Jean-Pierre Savelli. She also sang with a fun music group called La Bande à Basile. Chantal was also a songwriter. She wrote music for French singers like Carlos and C.Jérôme. She even wrote the big hit "Danse autour de la Terre" (Dance all over the world) for the children's music group Mini-Star in 1984. Chantal and her sister Pascale also sang backup for famous artists. They sang for Michel Sardou and even for Celine Dion on some of her early French songs.

Their Big Hit Song

"Besoin de rien, envie de toi"

The song "Besoin de rien, envie de toi" was a huge success. It was the first song to reach number one on the French music charts. These charts were called the Top 50. The very first Top 50 show was on November 4, 1984. It was shown on the new TV channel Canal Plus.

The Top 50 Chart

The Top 50 was the first music chart in France based on how many single records were sold. It was also the first chart in France where people could watch music videos. A host named Marc Toesca presented the show.

After the Duo Split

Going Their Separate Ways

In 1987, Peter and Sloane decided to stop making music together. This happened after their third single did not become a hit. After the split, both singers started new projects.

Solo Careers

Sloane began a solo singing career. She first performed in Quebec, Canada, and then back in France. She released her own album called Exquise. Peter started his own production company. He also wrote several songs for the French singer Indra.

A Look Back

In 1998, Peter and Sloane released a "Best of" album. This album featured their most popular songs.
