Different Types of Peugeot 306

The Peugeot 306 came in many shapes and sizes to fit different needs. These different body styles are often called "versions."

Engine Options for the Peugeot 306

Cars need engines to move, and the Peugeot 306 had several different types. Engines are measured by their size (like 1.4 or 2.0 liters) and how much power they make (measured in kilowatts, kW, or horsepower, hp).

Petrol Engines

Petrol engines use gasoline as fuel. Here are some of the petrol engine options that were available for the Peugeot 306:

  • 1.1 engine: This was the smallest engine, making 44 kW (60 hp) of power.
  • 1.4 engine: A bit more powerful, with 55 kW (75 hp).
  • 1.6 engine: This one produced 65 kW (88 hp).
  • 1.8 engine: Making 74 kW (101 hp).
  • 1.8 16V engine: This version had 16 valves, which helped it make more power, reaching 81 kW (110 hp).
  • 2.0 engine: A larger engine with 89 kW (121 hp).
  • 2.0 16V engine: The 16-valve version of the 2.0-liter, producing 97 kW (132 hp).
  • 2.0 S16 engine: A sportier version with 112 kW (152 hp).
  • 2.0 GTI engine: This was the most powerful petrol engine, found in the high-performance GTI models, making 120 kW (163 hp).

Diesel Engines

Diesel engines use diesel fuel, which is often more fuel-efficient. The Peugeot 306 also offered several diesel engine choices:

  • 1.8 D engine: The smallest diesel option, with 43 kW (58 hp).
  • 1.9 D engine: This engine came in two power levels: 50 kW (68 hp) and 51 kW (69 hp).
  • 1.9 SD engine: A slightly more powerful diesel, making 55 kW (75 hp).
  • 1.9 TD engine: This was a turbocharged diesel, which means it used a special system to boost power, reaching 66 kW (90 hp).
  • 2.0 HDi engine: A modern diesel engine with common rail technology, also making 66 kW (90 hp).
