How Peñafiel Started
Peñafiel began its journey in a place called Tehuacán, Puebla, in Mexico. This was around the year 1928. For many years, people have enjoyed this refreshing mineral water.
New Flavors and Changes
Over time, Peñafiel has introduced different types of its drinks. Today, you can find products like Naturel, Twist, and Classic.
In 1992, a company called Cadbury Schweppes bought Peñafiel. This helped Peñafiel grow even more. They added new flavors and changed their packaging. For example, in 2003, they launched Peñafiel Twist. These were fruit-flavored mineral waters. They had much fewer calories than regular sodas.
Then, in 2004, Peñafiel Naturel came out. This version had no artificial sweeteners. It also had about 75% fewer calories than most sugary drinks. Peñafiel is now part of the Dr Pepper Snapple Group. This company sells over 50 different drink brands across North America.
Important Safety Check
In June 2019, a group called the Center for Environmental Health did some tests. They found that some Peñafiel products had higher levels of a substance called arsenic. Arsenic is a natural element, but too much of it can be a concern for health. This finding led to discussions about water safety.
