Philip Coggan is a well-known British journalist and author. He writes about business and money for newspapers and magazines. He has written for The Economist since 2006.

At The Economist, he wrote a weekly column called Bartleby. This column was about work and how businesses are managed. He also wrote the Buttonwood column, which focused on finance and money matters. Before joining The Economist, Philip Coggan worked for another important newspaper, the Financial Times, for 20 years. He worked there from 1986 to 2006.

He studied at Sidney Sussex College at the University of Cambridge. Philip Coggan has won several awards for his excellent journalism. In 2008, he was named "Senior Financial Journalist of the Year" by the Wincott Foundation. The next year, in 2009, he was voted "Best Communicator" at the Business Journalist of the Year Awards. In 2016, the CFA Society of the United Kingdom named him "Journalist of the Year."
