Philip Newth (born on January 20, 1939) is a talented author from both England and Norway. He writes many books, especially for children. He has written more than fifty books, including special ones for kids who are deaf or blind.

About Philip Newth
Philip Newth was born in Worcester, England. His parents, William Newth and Constance Tayler, were both actors. Philip is married to Mette Newth, who is also a writer and illustrator. Her parents were Fridtjof and Lalli Knutsen. Philip and Mette settled in Rykkinn in Bærum, Norway. They have three children: Eirik Newth, Hege, and Torstein.
Philip Newth's Writing Career
Philip Newth started his writing journey in 1970. His first children's book was called Den aller største kanonen. Since then, he has written over fifty books for young readers.
Books About English Life
Some of his books show what life was like for working-class families in England around the 1950s. These include Beany, Fatto, Ludo og jeg (from 1979), Røtter i Kastanjegata (from 1980), and Opp mot veggen (from 1991).
Books for Children with Special Needs
Philip Newth has written unique books for children who are blind or deaf.
- For blind children, he wrote Rulle på eventyr (1979) and Verdens viktigste O (1980). In "Rulle," a round shape cut from cardboard goes on exciting adventures. It meets squares, triangles, and other shapes.
- For deaf children, he wrote Fy katte! (1982) and Pass på Lillebror (1984).
- He also worked with his wife, Mette, to create Ballsprett (1980). This picture book was made for children with intellectual disabilities.

Philip Newth has written many other interesting books. Some of these are Huset som ikke ville dø (1987), Bacon og egg mot tegneserieheltene (1988), and Drusilde (1990).
He has also written science fiction novels. These include Roboten er løs! (1982), Robot i rommet (1984), and Ettersøkt – Roboten Matilda (1986). Later, he wrote Robinson Crusoe Larsen (1994), Min venn Kong (1995), and Matilda, litt av en robot (2002).
Awards and Recognition
In 1985, Philip Newth received a special award. He won the Norwegian Critics Prize for Best children's book. He shared this award with his wife and co-writer, Mette Newth, for their book Soldreperen.
