His Family and Early Years
Philip William August was one of many children. He was the 13th of 17 kids! His father was Philip William. An Elector Palatine was a powerful ruler in the Holy Roman Empire. His mother was Elisabeth Amalie. She was the daughter of Landgrave George II.
One of his older sisters was Eleonor Magdalene. She married Emperor Leopold I in 1676. This made her a very important person.
His Journey and Career
In August 1689, Philip William August started a special trip. It was called a "Grand Tour" to Italy. Young nobles often took these trips. They would travel across Europe to learn about different cultures. Before his tour, he visited his brother in Breslau. He also saw his sister in Vienna.
Philip William August decided to join the military. He chose a non-religious career path. He served actively in the army. Sadly, he died at the young age of 24. He had been sick for seven days with a serious illness. He was buried in the local church in Zákupy. His heart was placed in the Court Church in Neuburg on the Danube.
His Marriage and Children
Philip William August married Anna Maria Franziska. The wedding took place on October 29, 1690, in Raudnitz. Anna Maria Franziska was the daughter of Duke Julius Francis.
The wedding had to be delayed. This was because Philip William August's father had been ill and then passed away. So, the ceremony was kept "plain" and simple.
Philip William August and Anna Maria Franziska had two daughters:
- Leopoldine Eleanor (born 1691, died 1693).
- Maria Anna Carolina (born 1693, died 1751). She later married Prince Ferdinand of Bavaria in 1719.
