Early Life and Education
Philippe Desranleau was born in a town called Saint-Sébastien-d'Iberville, Quebec. He went to school at the Séminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe. He also studied at the Grand Séminaire de Montréal. These schools helped him prepare for his life in the church.
Becoming a Priest and Bishop
In 1909, Philippe Desranleau became a priest. This meant he was officially ready to lead religious services. Later, in 1937, he was given a special role. He became a Titular Bishop of Sala. This is a title for a bishop who doesn't lead a specific area. He also became a Coadjutor Bishop of Sherbrooke. This means he was an assistant bishop, ready to take over.
Archbishop of Sherbrooke
In 1941, he was appointed the main Bishop of Sherbrooke. Then, in 1951, he became the first Archbishop of Sherbrooke. An archbishop is a very high-ranking bishop. He continued to serve in this important role until he passed away in 1952.
