Phoneton, Ohio facts for kids
Phoneton (also known as Phonetown) is a small community in Ohio, United States. It is located in the southwestern part of Bethel Township, within Miami County. This area is not a city or a town with its own local government; it's called an "unincorporated community."
Phoneton is found where two important roads meet: the National Road (which is also U.S. Route 40) and Old Troy Pike (State Route 202). It is also considered part of the larger Dayton area, known as the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area.

How Phoneton Started
Phoneton first began in 1893. Back then, it was known as Phonetown. It was created as a "company town" by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. A company town is a place where a company builds homes, stores, and other facilities for its workers. This way, the company could keep its employees close to their jobs.
The Phoneton Post Office
A post office was opened in Phoneton in 1898. This meant that people living in the community could send and receive mail right there. The Phoneton post office served the community for many years, until it finally closed down in 1981.
