Pickel, Missouri facts for kids
Pickel is a small, quiet place located in Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri. It's what we call an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially part of a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county government.
A Look Back: Pickel's History
The name "Pickel" might sound a bit funny, but it actually comes from a person! The area was named after William Pickles, who originally owned the land where the community grew. For a while, the name was even spelled "Pickle."
A post office was opened in Pickel in 1898. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. However, the post office didn't stay open for very long. It closed its doors in 1905, just seven years after it started.
