Pierre-Henri Menthéour (born May 9, 1960 – died April 12, 2014) was a French professional road bicycle racer. He was born in Algiers, which is now part of Algeria. His brother, Erwann, was also a professional cyclist.
Pierre-Henri Menthéour was a talented rider. He won one stage in the famous 1984 Tour de France race. His team, Renault–Elf–Gitane, also won the final Team Classification that year. His teammate, Laurent Fignon, was the overall winner of the 1984 Tour. Pierre-Henri retired from cycling in 1986. However, he later returned to the sport at age 36 to try and break the French Hour record of France.
Life After Cycling
After his cycling career, Pierre-Henri Menthéour became a successful journalist and TV cameraman. He worked on the Tour de France coverage for Eurosport. He also worked on other projects. In 2008, he won an award for a documentary he made about Afghanistan. This documentary was part of the French TV series Envoyé spécial.
His Passing
Pierre-Henri Menthéour passed away on April 12, 2014. He died from cancer.
