Pierre Falardeau (born December 28, 1946 – died September 25, 2009) was a famous Québécois film director and writer. He made many movies and documentaries. He was also known for being a strong supporter of Quebec independence, which means he believed Quebec should become its own country.
Falardeau wrote a book called Rien n'est plus précieux que la liberté et l'indépendance, which means "Nothing is more precious than freedom and independence." He passed away on September 25, 2009, after a long illness. He was buried in the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery in Montreal.
After he died, a documentary film was made about his life in 2010. It was simply called Falardeau.
His Ideas and Views
Pierre Falardeau had strong opinions about Quebec's future. He believed that anyone who supported Quebec becoming independent was like family, no matter where they came from. He said that if someone did not support independence, he saw them as "the enemy."
During his career, some of his actions caused discussion. For example, in 2006, a photo showed him at a gathering in Montreal. In the picture, he was with some young people and his friend, Julien Poulin. They were holding a flag from a group involved in a conflict. When asked about it, Falardeau explained that he had approached the young men to understand their views. He also said that the flag belonged to them, not to him.
