Pilar López de Ayala Arroyo (born on September 18, 1978) is a talented actress from Spain. She is well-known for her role as Joanna of Castile in the 2001 movie Mad Love. For this role, she won a special award called the Goya Award for Best Actress.

Early Life and Education

Pilar López de Ayala Arroyo was born in Madrid, Spain, on September 18, 1978. Her parents are Rodrigo López de Ayala Sánchez-Arjona and Pilar Arroyo Gallego. She went to a public school called Francisco de Quevedo in Majadahonda.

Starting Her Acting Journey

Pilar López de Ayala began her acting career with a small part in the children's movie El niño invisible [ca] (1995). This film helped promote a music group called Bom Bom Chip [es].

From 1997 to 1999, she played the character Carlota in 418 episodes of a TV show for teenagers called Al salir de clase. She then acted in the movie By My Side Again (1999), directed by Gracia Querejeta.

Around the year 2000, she also appeared in comedy films like Living It Up and Kisses for Everyone. For her role as Rocío in Kisses for Everyone, she was nominated for the Goya Award for Best New Actress.

Becoming a Star and Taking a Break

Pilar López de Ayala received great praise for her role as Joanna of Castile in the historical movie Mad Love. This film was made with help from Italy and Portugal. It first showed in September 2001 at the 49th San Sebastián International Film Festival. There, López de Ayala won the Silver Shell for Best Actress award. The movie was also very popular in Spain.

After this success, López de Ayala won the Goya Award for Best Actress. She also received an Actors Union Award for Best Leading Performance in a Film.

Even with all this success, Pilar López de Ayala did not work much in the Spanish film industry from 2001 to 2005. However, she did act in an English-language movie called The Bridge of San Luis Rey (2004). This film was made with France and the United Kingdom.
