Pinckney was officially planned out and marked on a map in 1819. This process is called "platting." It was named after a girl named Atossa Pinckney Sharp. Her father was an important county official, meaning he held a public job helping to run the county.

Pinckney's Post Office

A post office was opened in Pinckney in 1833. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed down in 1905. For a while, Pinckney was also known by another name: "Kruegerville."
