The Piperaceae, also known as the pepper family, is a large group of flowering plants. This family includes about 3,610 different types (species) of plants, which are organized into five main groups called genera.
Most of the plants in the pepper family belong to two big groups: Piper and Peperomia. The Piper group has around 2,000 species, and the Peperomia group has about 1,600 species.

What is the Pepper Family?
The Piperaceae family is known for its many different kinds of plants. You might know some of them, like the plant that gives us black pepper! These plants grow all over the world, especially in warm, tropical areas. They can be small herbs, climbing vines, or even small trees.
