Plum Baby was a company in the United Kingdom that made special organic food for babies and toddlers. Organic food means it's grown without certain chemicals. The company was based in a place called Taplow.

In August 2014, the company announced that they stopped making products. This happened after some of their products had to be taken back from stores in 2013. These problems started after the person who founded the company sold it to another group called Darwin Private Equity. There were no recalls when the founder was still in charge.

Susie Willis started Plum Baby in 2004. The brand made organic food for babies and young children. Their products were sold in many big supermarkets in the UK. Plum Baby was known for being a high-quality baby food brand. It was also a member of a group called Organic Farmers and Growers. It was one of the first new brands in the baby food market that focused on organic ingredients and avoided using fillers like rice. Instead, they used healthy ingredients like quinoa.

The Story of Plum Baby

How It Started

Plum Baby was started in Britain in 2004 by Susie Willis. Their products first appeared in stores in February 2006, starting with Sainsbury's. Within just one year, Plum Baby products were available in 2,500 different supermarket stores. In May 2010, the people who started Plum Baby sold it to another company called Darwin Private Equity.

Changes and Challenges

In January 2013, Plum Baby Ltd was sold to a company from the United States called Plum Organics. Then, in June 2013, Plum Organics was bought by a much larger company called Campbell Soup.

Later in 2013, Plum Organics had to recall some of its baby food products. This was because there were problems with the food going bad. Plum Baby Ltd eventually closed down in August 2014.

In 2021, Plum Organics was sold again, this time to Sun-Maid Growers of California.

Plum Baby Products

What They Made

Plum Baby offered 38 different types of products. These included baby food for different stages of growth, toddler food, and snack ranges. All Plum Baby products were described as 100% organic.

Special Packaging

Their wet food came in special pouches that could be sealed again after opening. These pouches had a layer of aluminum between two layers of plastic. This design helped keep the food fresh without needing extra preservatives. It also meant the food didn't need a lot of processing. The aluminum never touched the food directly, so it was safe to eat. However, some of these pouches were recalled because the seals on certain baby food lines broke, causing the food inside to spoil.

Healthy Ingredients

Plum Baby products did not have any added sugar, salt, or water. They also did not contain any artificial additives, E numbers, or genetically modified (GM) ingredients. Plum Baby Organics prepared baby food was often more nutritious than other brands because it included quinoa for texture and extra goodness.
