A Look Back: Garachico's Port History

The Old Port's Importance

Long ago, between the 1600s and 1700s, the old Port of Garachico was super important. It was the busiest port on the island of Tenerife! Ships sailed from here, carrying goods to places like America and Europe. It was a busy hub for trade and business.

The Volcano's Impact

But then, in 1706, something big happened. The Trevejo volcano erupted! This powerful eruption sadly destroyed the old port. It also stopped much of the town's economic activity. It was a tough time for Garachico.

A New Beginning

After many years, a new port was built. In 2012, the current Port of Garachico officially opened. It is located right next to the historic center of the town. This new port helps Garachico connect with the sea once again.

What the Port Offers

The Port of Garachico is a modern harbor. It has 160 special spots called berths. These berths are like parking spaces for boats. They are perfect for sports boats up to 15 meters (about 49 feet) long.

The port is also very safe. A long wall, called a dike, protects it. This dike is 650 meters (about 2,130 feet) long. It keeps the boats safe from big waves and strong ocean currents.
